Good marketing is no accident , but result of careful planning and execution using state-of-the -art tools and techniques .It becomes both an art and a science as marketers strive to find creative new solutions to often-complex challenges amid profound changes in the 21st century marking environment.The first decade of the 21st century challenged businesses to prosper financially and even survive in the face of an unforgiving economic environment .Marking is Playing a key role in addressing those challenges.Finance, operations, accounting,and other business functions will not really matter without sufficient demand for products and services so the business can make a profit.Marking has helped introduction and gain acceptance of new production that have eased or enriched people's lives, It can inspire enhancements in existing production as marketers innovate to improve their position in the marketplace. Successful marketing buildings demand for products and services, which, in turn, creates jobs.

Definition of Marketing:

Marketing management is the art and science of choosing target markets and getting ,keeping and growing customers through creating, communicating and deluding superior customer value.

A more detailed  definition  would describe as:

Marketing is the business functions that identifies unfulfilled needs and wants, defines and measures their magnitude and potential profitability, determines which target markets the organization can best programs to serve these chosen markets, and calls, upon every one in the organization to think and serve the customer. Marketing is a social and managerial process by which individuals and groups obtain what they need and want through creating and exchanging productions and value with other's.
